Surprising Actor Cast For Role Of Alex Murdaugh In New Lifetime Movie
Lifetime is about to hit the major milestone of premiering its 500th original movie. The 2-night movie event has a local tie. And to celebrate, it’s producing a movie on the dramatic fall of lawyer Alex Murdaugh. A surprising actor was cast to play the role Alex Murdaugh. Variety reports Bill Pullman is set to star as the convicted murderer.
Murdaugh is the South Carolina lawyer who, despite coming from a long line of prominent and powerful, spiraled into a secret life of crime. It ended with the gruesome murders of his own wife and son.
Lifetime has actually come a long way with their original movies. Upping their game and their budgets.
“Murdaugh Murders: The Movie” will be a two-night event that premieres October 14th. It leads a full slate of movies of real-life events. Titles that include “Buying Back My Daughter,” “Would You Kill For Me? The Mary Bailey Story,” and- most intriguingly- “Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story,”
CBS News reports attorneys for Murdaugh are looking for a new trial for their client.
Murdaugh was convicted in March by a jury of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul in 2021. In a court filing earlier this month, his legal team alleged that the Colleton County Clerk of Court, Rebecca Hill, violated Murdaugh’s right to a fair trial before an impartial jury to profit from the case. Attorneys Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian are requesting a hearing that would give them subpoena powers so they can request phone records, gain access to emails, and speak to witnesses, with the goal being a new trial for their client.
Attorneys for Murdaugh claim that Hill:
- Told jurors not to be ‘fooled by’ Mr. Murdaugh’s testimony in his own defense”
- Had “frequent private conversations with the jury foreperson”
- “Asked jurors for their opinions about Mr. Murdaugh’s guilt or innocence”
- “Invented a story about a Facebook post to remove a juror she believed might not vote guilty”
- “Pressured the jurors to reach a quick verdict”
The filing contains sworn affidavits from three of the jurors, along with excerpts from Hill’s book. “Ms. Hill betrayed her oath of office for money and fame,” according to Murdaugh’s lawyers. Griffin and Harpootlian said in a statement that they’ve asked the South Carolina U.S. attorney to open a federal investigation into the trial.
