Maney and LauRen Dish Behind Scenes On Bar Rescue In Hickory
Last June producers asked Maney (myself) and LauRen if we’d like to be part of Paramount’s popular TV show “Bar Rescue.” The show was coming to Hickory to film at a place called Corner Pocket 2. The host of the show is a guy named John Taffer, he’s a BIG personality who tells or “yells” it like it is.
Admittedly I hadn’t seen many episodes of the show. I do like the idea of helping someone turn a bar or restaurant around. I was intrigued. Especially with the show coming locally to Hickory. My co-hosts Roy and LauRen were really excited to shoot the show. I on the other hand was concerned about us driving all the way up to Hickory for a few hours with no real pay-off. I was right haha. More on that in a minute.
The producers tell us they like local radio people to be involved, and John would like us to be spies for him. Roy and LauRen are excited to it. Then Roy announces he’s leaving weeks earlier than anticipated. So now Ren wants to go, but not alone haha. So I agree to go with her.
After negative covid tests, they mic us up and ask us to go in and order specific drinks. We do. The drinks are awful. No sooner than we sit and get our drinks does Taffer run into the building and throws everyone out! What you don’t see is us! Haha. We’re in maybe 3 scenes and it’s all reaction shots! They shot about 30 minutes of video with us answering questions about the experience. We talked how we have a bunch of listeners from Hickory and it’s a cool gritty city. None of that aired. Oh well!
The episode called “3rd Pocket’s a Charm.”
