Charlotte, get outside and do these fun things this spring
Hey Charlotte, spring is officially here! For many, the sun’s back out, it’s getting warmer again, and you just want to be outside as much as you can. You’ve been cooped up all winter long, it’s time to get some fresh air!
To help you get outside as much as possible, “Teen Vogue” has rounded up a great list of outdoor activities, both usual ones and some not-so-usual but still fun ones. Use this as a checklist this season and see how many you do!
- Wander through a botanical garden
- There are several botanical gardens in Charlotte. My favorites would be UNC Charlotte’s Botanical Gardens and Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
- Make some art underneath a big tree
- Freedom Park off East Blvd seems like a great place to set up and do something like this
- Head to a farmer’s market
- Charlotte’s regional farmer’s market is great but most of the Charlotte boroughs have their own farmer’s markets as well: South End, Plaza Midwood, Noda, etc.
- Shop vintage treasurers at a flea market
- If you’re into vintage like I am, then you have to check out some of my friends who started a vintage clothing business. They also put on vintage markets and they’re literally one of a kind. Check them out.
- Plant a garden
- If you have an area in the backyard, head over to Lowes and get stuff to plant things! If not, then go to Lowes and get a raised garden bed…or even some indoor pots and you can plant an indoor herb garden.
- Find an outdoor workout
- There is a legit outdoor “gym” at Veterans Park in Plaza Midwood. Check your local breweries for outdoor workout classes or outdoor yoga but if you want to get an outdoor workout in yourself, Veterans Park is the place to do it.
- Visit the nearest state park
- North (and South) Carolina is home to some beautiful state parks. Here are a few of my favorites: Lake Norman State Park, Crowders Mountain State Park, South Mountains State Park, Hanging Rock State Park, Stone Mountain State Park, Mount Mitchell State Park, Chimney Rock State Park, Pilot Mountain State Park, Eno River State park.
- Dine al fresco
- There are a lot of beautiful outdoor patios in Charlotte to dine al fresco but something my fiance and I did on one of our dates earlier on is we picked up takeout and we ate at Romare Bearden Park. I would highly recommend this on a good-weathered evening!
- Read in the park
- This one ties into the one above. Romare Bearden Park would be a great place to do this. Something else I’ve been wanting to try is reading at coffee shops.
- See what festivals are in town
- Charlotte has some awesome festivals coming up this spring. For example: BrewFest and the Grilled Cheese Festival!
Hope you have a wonderful spring!
