A Diner Has Added Wild Squirrel To Their Menu
A UK-based diner has sparked a social media frenzy after adding a wild squirrel dish to its menu. According to Fox News, the owner of Street Urchin is passionate about sustainable and ethical food sources and has decided to serve squirrel meat as a way to promote the use of underutilized ingredients. Squirrel meat is high in protein and low in fat, but facts aren’t helping the public’s reaction on social media.
Some people are supporting the idea of using alternative protein sources, while others don’t like the idea of eating the cute critters, with one saying “I draw the line at creamy rodent stew.”
I personally was devastated by this! If you listen to our show, you know I LOVE squirrels (and not to eat)! So the idea of someone eating this little furry friends is hard for me to swallow (pun intended).
The “crispy buttermilk wild grey squirrel” meal costs almost $28. If it catches on, the diner won’t run out of ingredients anytime soon; there are roughly 2.5 million grey squirrels in the UK alone.
