Glam ‘80s Weddings Making A Comeback In 2023
Minimalist weddings have been popular for a while now, but in the coming year, brides may be going for the complete opposite. According to Metro, searches related to big, bold 80s weddings are on the rise, according to Etsy. And their trend expert, Dayna Isom Johnson, says 1980s glam weddings are making a comeback in 2023.
Etsy reports that from August to October 2022:
- Searches for cathedral-length veils were up 65% from the same time the previous year.
- Searches for detachable sleeve wedding dresses also rose by 54%.
- Interest in embroidered veils increased by 49%, wedding gloves by 21% and high-neckline wedding dresses by 14%
Johnson says couples are “welcoming maximalism back to their weddings” and that the trend is about “having fun with your attire – think statement sleeves, high necks and all the volume.” Of course, you don’t have to tease your hair and break out the Aqua Net hairspray to get in on the trend, you can have more subtle fun with it by picking one statement element and “running with it,” the trend expert explains. If you’re not into the style of the 80s fashions, you can bring the glam of the decade with a multi-tiered cake, colorful streamers or larger-than life flower arrangements, as Johnson says, “No 80s wedding would be complete without making a major decor statement.”
