The 6 Types Of People You Need In Your Life
Here are the 6 types of people you need in your life. Let’s be honest: How many voicemails, DMs, emails, comments or invitations do you ignore or decline every day? There aren’t enough hours in the day to be available for everyone. Therapist Sara Kubric tells USA Today we have to prioritize who we spend time with.
Not sure which relationships deserve priority? Kubric shares the six types of people to keep close in your life:
- People who tell us the truth – It’s important to be able to trust the people around you. Honesty isn’t just about not lying or admitting when they mess up. It’s also about having the strength to tell us truths we don’t want to hear or when we’re wrong.
- Encourage and support you – Choose to spend your time with people who don’t feel threatened by your success or happiness. Find those who are just as happy about your wins as they would be about their own.
- Make space for your emotions – Some people are good at having stimulating conversations. Others not so great at being emotionally available to make space for how we feel. Those who can sit with us during the hard or painful times and respect our feelings. Knowing that sometimes we just need to be heard, not fixed – can support us and help us grow.
- Model qualities you admire – If people we spend time with help shape who we become. We can learn a lot by watching others. Fill your circle with those who have qualities you respect and want to develop.
- People who understand and accept you – Do you ever feel like your friends or people you interact with socially don’t truly understand you or accept you fully? You deserve to be surrounded by folks who see you and love you for who you are and encourage you to genuinely be yourself.
