Shopping for your tree? Here are some secrets Christmas tree vendors don’t want you to know! There are certain chores that come with the holiday season and picking out a Christmas tree is one of them. The annual tradition is sometimes seen as a fun event, but finding the ideal tree can be a complicated process. The people who sell Christmas trees have a lot of insider info that could make the process so much easier. They’re just not sharing it.
These are the secrets Christmas tree vendors don’t want you to know:
- You probably can’t haggle a better price. The Christmas tree industry only has a few weeks to make its sales on this once-a-year purchase. Some folks think they can wheel and deal their way to a bargain price. But a Christmas tree farmer on Reddit says before they ship their trees to lots where they’re sold, the trees are already tagged, based on height and density.
- Not all types of trees are easy to keep looking fresh. The crew on the tree lots helping you pick yours out has probably learned a thing or two on the job. Especially about which trees last longer. One Christmas tree vendor says their favorite is the Fraser Fir. That’s because it retains its needles better than a Colorado Spruce or a Balsam. Another Christmas tree specialist advises, “Make sure you get a tree with short, wide stubbly needles as these tend to hold onto moisture longer.
- Avoid buying your tree at certain stores. Big box stores may not be the best place to shop for your Christmas tree, according to these experts. “Home Depot and Lowe’s cut their trees by the thousands and don’t keep them in water,” reveals a Christmas tree specialist. “Usually, they’re almost dead by the time they hit the lot.”
- You can even go wrong with an artificial tree. If you want to avoid shedding needles, artificial may be the way to go. But there are still things to keep in mind. An artificial Christmas tree manufacturer says flocked trees. The ones covered in fake snow, are a pain to make and after a couple years, they start losing flock and “look awful.”
