USPS Honors Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg With Stamp
The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be honored with a new postage stamp, the U.S. Postal Service has announced. The “icon of American culture” and long-serving member of the court was the 107th Supreme Court Justice of the United States until her death in 2020 at age 87.
RBG’s image will be featured on a forever stamp that shows an oil painting based on a photo of her “facing the viewer in her black judicial robe with an intricate white collar,” the USPS says in a statement. Those collars became a trademark of the justice’s wardrobe. The stamps will be available in 2023, but a specific date has yet to be announced.
“After beginning her career as an activist lawyer fighting gender discrimination, Justice Ginsburg became a respected jurist whose important majority opinions advancing equality and strong dissents on socially controversial rulings made her a passionate proponent of equal justice and an icon of American culture,” the statement reads.
The USPS also revealed other stamps that will be released in 2023, including the 46th stamp in the Black Heritage series honoring author Ernest J. Gaines, a red fox, winter woodland animals, endangered species, author Toni Morrison and works by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.
The U.S. Postal Service announces many of the stamps it will issue in 2023. More will be revealed in the weeks and months ahead. For full details: https://t.co/2yNiX0gGlF pic.twitter.com/liwtn8QJiW
