Couple Married 75 Years Reveals Secret To Happy Marriage
Who wouldn’t take advice from a couple married 75 years on the secret to a happy marriage? A British couple credits their long marriage to love … their love of arguing that is. Josephine and Alfred Waterfield are both 100 and they recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, so they know a thing or two about what makes a union successful. And to them? A daily dispute definitely helps according to the NY Post.
“They’d say the secret to a happy marriage and reaching 100 is to have a row every day,” says the couple’s son, Allen, 74. “They are like that, nothing serious, just a bicker.” It’s rare to see marriages last as long as theirs these days, so they may be onto something with those trivial tiffs. “They got something right, and it’s lovely,” Allen says. “There’s some hope for us all.”
In addition to their daily squabble, the centenarians also reveal that the secret to both of their long lives is having a daily drink. Allen says they both have a Baileys every night before they go to bed. He shares that his dad also likes whisky and has a beer with a whisky chaser every day with his lunch and says that does him good. The couple, who met at a pub back in 1938 before tying the knot in 1947, now live in a nursing home and employees there say they’re still madly in love with each other, despite the daily disputes.
