Trio of Appalachian State Students Win Free Tuition For GameDay Posters
Appalachian State University awarded a year of free tuition to three winners of their GameDay poster contest. According to My FOX 8, after the App State Mountaineers football team scored an upset victory over then-number-six-ranked Texas A&M, ESPN chose the school’s campus as the location for the following week’s College GameDay coverage. To celebrate the honor of having ESPN come to the Boone, North Carolina, campus, the college ran a poster contest with a grand prize of free tuition and fees for a year.
The winner of the poster contest, freshman Zack Carr, along with runners-up junior Annilyn Impara and sophomore Ethan Cagl were live on-air before an audience of over a million people when they learned that not just one, but all three of them would be receiving a free year of tuition and fees.
Funding for the tuition and fees came from unrestricted donated funds from the App State’s Foundation. Zach’s parents were overjoyed about the good news since they’re paying for him and his brother to attend the University. “It’s just; it’s a huge relief,” says Zach’s father Chris Carr. “As we know, the cost of college is not cheap.”
