Things You May Not Know About Flying
Whether you fly a lot or every once in a while, there are things you may not know about flying. My dad is a retired TWA pilot so I was aware of a few tidbits about flying. Planes are incredibly safe. “Pops” used to say the scariest part of his job was commuting to the airport in NYC.
He also told me turbulence is just a bump in the air, kinda like a pothole in the road. It’s no big deal. In fact, turbulence was never the exact cause of a plane crash.
Other people who work in aviation know some cool tidbits and Simple Flying is sharing the info. Now I’m sharing the info with you…
- There is no row 13 on a plane.
- Staying hydrated is important while flying. In just a three-hour flight, the body can lose 1.5 liters of water
- You can’t lock yourself in the lavatory. There’s a hidden button to the bathroom that allows the flight crew to enter
- Tomato juice is the second most requested drink by passengers. Water is number one
- Despite smoking being banned on airlines, if the disposable ashtray in the bathroom goes missing, the plane is grounded until replaced
- Moderate turbulence can move the airplane between 10 and 20 feet.
- At any given time, there are 9,700 aircraft and 1.2 million people in the skies
