US Gets Its First Monkeypox Case
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the CDC confirmed the first known case of Monkeypox in the U.S. The Massachusetts man with the virus recently traveled to Canada. Health officials say he is hospitalized and in good condition while noting his case poses no risk to the public.
This comes after several “rare and unusual” Monkeypox cases were detected in the U.K. Monkeypox symptoms include fever, headache fatigue, and muscle aches.
The virus gets passed mostly through the exchange of large respiratory droplets during prolonged face-to-face contact, according to the CDC. The virus can also spread through direct contact with bodily fluids, lesions or items they touch, like clothing or bedding.
Monkeypox is in the smallpox family and cases are typically mild. Only about one-in-nine people die from it.
Jeeeez just when I thought it was safe to go out!!
