Single Or Not, Here’s Why You Should Be Solo Dining
Solo dining is officially in. There are some perfectly valid reasons why you would choose to not go out to eat. Maybe it’s because you’re on a budget or you’re sticking to a strict diet. But because you’re alone and have no one to go with, shouldn’t be one of them.
Solo dining at a restaurant doesn’t mean you’re lonely and you have no friends. In fact, according to Insider, it’s quite the opposite. It means you’re comfortable enough to enjoy your own company. Here’s why you should start “solo dining”:
It’s liberating. You’ll feel comfortable and confident enough to go anywhere you want to eat anytime you want. No date? No problem! I LOVE going to eat at a restaurant by myself and I do it so often that Maney and Roy are constantly making fun of me!
You become more comfortable being alone in other situations. Think of how often when you’re left alone anywhere, you automatically pull out your phone. It’s a security thing. When you become more comfortable by yourself, you’ll notice you don’t need to do this all the time.
You become more aware of your surroundings. With no one there to talk to, you have a chance to let your mind wander and pick up on everything else that’s happening around you.
If you’re new to this whole thing, it could feel awkward at first. You may feel even feel a bit self-conscious especially when you look around to see couples, friends, and families dining all around you. Keep these things in mind:
- No one is looking at you as much as you feel like they are
- Start small: sit at the bar or even just at a park in public
- Bring a prop like a notebook or a book
