Do you remember Clay Aiken from American Idol? He calls Raleigh, North Carolina home and finished season two of American Idol as runner-up.
He took to Twitter on Monday, January 10th to say that he will be running for North Carolina Congress!
Can you believe it's been almost 20 years since I first got to share my voice with you? That's a long time. A LOT has changed!— Clay Aiken (@clayaiken) January 10, 2022
We need powerful voices more than ever, so I'm running for Congress.
And my voice is even stronger now! ;-) #JoinTheChorushttps://t.co/aQIm8a2xuZ pic.twitter.com/xBtN2CYF30
Aiken is a Democrat and will campaign to fill the seat being left behind by Rep. David Price. Rep. David Price announced his retirement in October. If Aiken gets elected he will be the first openly LGBTQ member of Congress from the south.
His campaign website says that he hopes to be a “voice for North Carolina” while ushering in progressive policies and “bringing sanity and civility back to the political conversation.”
