The Case Of Prominent SC Attorney Shooting Gets More Murky
A man is in custody in connection with the shooting of a prominent South Carolina lawyer whose wife and son was shot to death back in June.
Authorities say 61-year-old Curtis Smith, who is a former client, is being held on several charges, including assisted suicide and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Attorney Alex Murdaugh was wounded on September 4th, and told police he was shot in the head while changing a flat tire.
An affidavit from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division alleges Murdaugh had given the gun to Curtis Smith and told him to shoot him, so Murdaugh’s other son could collect a life insurance payout of about 10-million dollars.
The saga is a mess as investigations into a Murdaugh son not being charged in two cases have opened and the lawyer being accused of “misusing” millions of law firm dollars.
