Police have arrested two Ft. Myers, Florida area middle schoolers over a plot to shoot up their school.
According to ABC News, A teacher at Harns Marsh Middle School in Lehigh Acres told school administrators and the resource officer about a tip from students on Wednesday. A search of an eighth grader’s backpack did not turn up a gun, but according to ABC News, administrators allegedly found a map that “contains markings indicating the location of each of the school’s interior cameras.”
ABC News reports that the two suspects, 13 and 14, were “extensively studying” the 1999 Columbine High School shooting and allegedly trying to learn how to build a pipe bomb. Searches of their homes turned up a gun and several knives.
The two students were both known to authorities as law enforcement had visited their homes nearly 80 times combined. Both will be charged with conspiracy to commit a mass shooting.
