Mom Begs For Help With Math Homework, The Internet Is Stumped
Parents aren’t teachers, we’re all finding that out during covid times! Teresa Hopper shared a screnshot of her seven-year-old’s math homework to the Facebook group Family Lockdown Tips and Tricks asking for advice, and didn’t get that much help.
The tricky math problem starts out, “Karla says: ‘I have three hundreds counters, 17 tens counters and 16 ones counters,” adding, “a) Can she make two equal three-digit numbers? If so, draw the counters to show them. b) Can she make two equal three-digit numbers if she had to use all her counters? If so, draw the counters to show them.”
Alongside a photo of the problem Teresa shared, “I hate homework. Please help! “Is the answer to a) & b) the same or am I missing something?!”
- Well, apparently the question had a lot of folks baffled, including some really educated people. “I have a PhD in maths, and I have no idea what this question is asking,” one commenter noted, adding, “Unless there’s a diagram to go with it, or more explanation somewhere else.”
- And that wasn’t the only person lost. “How old is this homework meant for?,” one person asked, while another noted, “Clearly not for a 40 year old woman, I’m lost.”
Teresa later noted that she actually got the right answer, which was 172 for a and 243 for b, although she added, “I certainly didn’t expect it to be so difficult.”
