Meek Mill is Free!
He was released on bail yesterday after spending 5 months in prison.
The Philadelphia born rapper celebrated his release by attending a 76ers game. He was treated like royalty and even rang the ceremonial bell before the start of the game. He had been in prison for violating probation in a 2008 drug and gun case. He was sentenced to two to four years.
The case sparked outrage from criminal justice reform activists. He received widespread support from notable celebrities like Jay-Z, T.I., Rick Ross, the 76ers Micheal Rubin and a host of others. Rubin told CNN in an interview that “what the support did is bring the overall problem of the criminal justice reform that’s needed to light.”
That it did. Meek went to social media to express his gratitude to the people who helped him stay positive, including the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. For all the fans that missed his music, he has plans for continuing in the future.
I’d like to thank God, my family, and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time. While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive.

In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.
