Ways To Make Moving In Together Easier
If you decide to shack up these are some tips you’ll want to know.
Living with your significant other can bring a lot of pros, like someone to split the bills with or someone to always travel with. but it can also bring cons because it’s not always easy to compromise as roommates. Relationship coach Trina Leckie gives some tips on how to make it work for you.
First have a trial period. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of living together and the idea of the future that often you don’t look at the bigger picture. So take about two weeks of staying together, no breaks, and try it out.
Talk about storage space for both of your things. It doesn’t seem like an issue now but when space is tight and you’re spending all your time together, you’ll argue over simple things. To make a smoother transition figure out how to use the space to make everyone happy.
Sign a written agreement. Sit down and lay out all the rules about household chores and the responsibilities up front. It might seem like over doing it, but it could save you from dirty dish fights in the future.
Create a budget. This will be for your living expenses and it will talk about who’s kicking in for what and how much you each contribute. Knowing what to expect will help avoid arguments when bills are due.
Have your own little corner. While living together can be amazing, you should both have an area of your own that you can escape. Personal space is important in a healthy relationship. You can love being with your partner without being up under them all the time.
