Flavor Flav Hyping Leighton Meester’s 2009 Single
Flavor Flav, the rapper perhaps best known for his larger-than-life personality and being the co-founder of Public Enemy, the Grammy Award-nominated rap group and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has also been known as a hype man during the LA wildfires.
The rapper is part of the driving force behind Heidi Montag’s 2010 album Superficial suddenly reaching No. 1 on iTunes. He’s been asking fans and other well-known pals to share themselves streaming Montag’s music in support. Now, he’s doing a repeat for Leighton Meester’s 2009 single, “Somebody to Love.” Montag, with her husband Spencer Pratt, and Meester, with her husband Adam Brody, lost their homes in the LA wildfires.
Leighton Meester’s Short-Lived Pop Star Career
Meester released her debut single, “Somebody to Love” in 2009 while still starring as Blair Waldorf in CW’s Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007 to 2012. She also released a cover of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and the single “Your Love’s A Drug,” and was featured on Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad” both songs enjoying a resurgence on X.
Flavor Flav Hyping Leighton’s “Somebody to Love”
Flav posted a video on TikTok dancing to Meester’s 2009 single featuring Robin Thicke. He wrote a text and superimposed in the video, “Starting to hype up my girl Leighton Meester and help her family recover from the fire.” He captioned it with, “Stream @LeightonMeester ‘Somebody to Love’ and use the song in yo TikTok’s.”
Fans love Flav’s efforts to help using music. One fan commented, “I swear Flavor Flav will be awarded a Medal of Freedom one day for being everyone’s #1 supporter and bringing peace everywhere he goes.” While another wrote, “Your support is so heartwarming” and called the rapper “a national treasure.”
Gibson Johns, award-nominated entertainment journalist also posted on X about Meester’s songs.
He wrote, “Can the internet also do what it did for Heidi Montag’s criminally underrated old music to Leighton Meester’s incredibly underappreciated pop music? Her house also burned down and that music deserves its time in the sun!!!”
Billboard reported that the support for Meester’s 2014 Heartstrings album has been overwhelming with fans surprised the actress can sing, while others expressing their excitement that the “criminally underrated” album is now getting the attention it deserved.
As of January 16, the album is now at no. 18 on the iTunes all-genre album chart, exceeding Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet.
