Nicki Minaj Announces Extended ‘Pink Friday 2’
Hip-hop icon Nicki Minaj isn’t finished with her Pink Friday 2 run.
Minaj took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday (Aug. 20) to announce a deluxe version of her latest release. Everything is still in the works, though, as Minaj said she’s going to have to keep listeners “posted” on when the deluxe version will drop.
“I love it so much. I’ll be performing 2-3 songs from this version of the album on the PF2 #GagCityReloaded TOUR,” she said, adding, “Barbz… Thanku for inspiring me. Love you.”
Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2
Minaj released Pink Friday 2 in December, 13 years following her debut record, Pink Friday. The project featured some of the biggest names in the industry, including J. Cole (“Let Me Calm Down”), Future (“Nicki Hendrix”), Lil Uzi Vert (“Everybody”), and gospel singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard (“Blessings”). The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart upon its release.
Speaking with Vogue.com, Minaj discussed her approach with Pink Friday 2 and how she wanted to have herself really shine through this release. Minaj proudly writes her own verses, but she made an extra effort to make Pink Friday 2 really represent who she is as an artist today.
“When I look back at a lot of my music, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, where was the me in it?'” she told the magazine. “So for this album, I went back to the old game plan.”
In that same interview, Minaj’s longtime mix engineer, Aubry “Big Juice” Delaine, said that Minaj was in control of the entire creative process for the record. He billed it as a “Nicki Minaj greatest hits album, but all the songs are new.”
Minaj has been making the rounds on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, and the trek has already earned Minaj the title of having the highest-grossing rap tour ever performed by a female artist, according to Billboard.com. It’s also inside the top 10 for the highest-grossing rap tours ever. According to Billboard Boxscore, the Pink Friday 2 World Tour grossed $67 million and pushed 439,000 tickets for the initial North American leg.
Minaj is currently getting ready for the second North American leg of the tour in September. Openers will include Young Money brother Tyga, “Whole Lotta Money” collaborator BIA and Skillibeng. The trek will start up again in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 4, and she’s on the road through an Oct. 11 gig in Queens, New York. So far, the Queens gig marks her last live show of the year.
