Olivia Rodrigo Duets ‘If It Makes You Happy’ With Sheryl Crow
Olivia Rodrigo performs onstage during the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey. Sheryl Crow performs onstage during Day 2 of Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival at Crypto.com Arena on September 24, 2023 in Los Angeles, California.
Olivia Rodrigo performed on stage with Sheryl Crow at Nashville’s The Bluebird Café over the weekend. They sang an intimate, stripped-down version of Crow’s hit, “If It Makes You Happy.” Rodrigo, 20, documented the special night with an Instagram post, sharing a fun photo of herself and Crow, 61, posing together in salon chairs while holding magazines with each other on the covers of Vogue. In the next slide, the “Vampire” singer shared a video of the stunning duet, backed by Crow on acoustic guitar. The duo sat side-by-side on stools on the venue’s small stage.
Rodrigo captioned the post: “pinch me! sang one of my favorite songs of all time with the greatest of all time @sherylcrow !!!! what an honor!!!!” The “The First Cut Is The Deepest” singer shared the post on her Instagram Story as well, praising Rodrigo: “She is just really good, y’all!” Crow also shared Rodrigo’s post to her main feed, where she wrote: “Funnest day ever with the amazingly brilliant @oliviarodrigo! What a talent!! And the loveliest young woman!”
Prior to their performance, the former Disney Channel star took the stage solo to sing several tracks from her Guts album, including “Lacy,” “Vampire,” and “Making the Bed.” This wasn’t the first time Crow and Rodrigo appeared on stage together. Last March, Crow presented Rodrigo with the Woman of the Year award at Billboard‘s Women in Music event. Sharing her excitement for Rodrigo, Crow told People, “I am happy to celebrate her. I think she’s gonna be around a long time. She deserves to be where she is celebrating this moment.” Crow also shared a piece of advice for the then-teenager: “Enjoy it. Just enjoy it. ‘Cause sometimes you get so swept up [on] ‘What am I gonna do next? What [do] I do next?’ And you forget to savor these little moments.”
What Were The Hottest Concerts Of 2023?
The past two years saw the return of touring, and many acts have hit the road with a vengeance. There have been amazing live performances, with some of the biggest artists returning to the road. Some tours were delayed due to COVID-19, while some musicians happened to take a long hiatus from performing altogether. Whatever the reason, in 2023, musicians across all genres of music announced world tours and stadium tours.
Pop legends like Madonna and Janet Jackson are touring on a global scale, as are younger artists like Harry Styles and Morgan Wallen. Popularity with K-pop and Latin artists has brought musicians from both genres to have successful tours in 2023. Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Pink and the Cure have all been on the road this year as well.
There is, of course, massive hype around Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Her shows last three-and-a-half hours as she covers all aspects of her career, from country to pop to indie. With her two “surprise songs” each night, fans are always eager to find out what songs she’ll choose for that segment. On top of that, her timing is impeccable for fans “itching for a post-pandemic live music immersive experience.” Another factor is how much Swifties appreciate Taylor’s dedication to her craft: writing all her songs and reclaiming ownership of all of her music by re-recording her discography. Fans have also been buying and streaming the new versions of her old songs and the bonus tracks on her re-recorded versions of her albums.
