TrustedHousesitters, a platform that connects vetted travelers with owners who need someone to watch their pets or home while they’re away, reports that the number of women between the ages of 25 and 45 who traveled alone in 2021 and 2022 increased by about 235%.
But they’re not the only ones taking trips solo. Travel by women between 46 and 65 was also up by roughly 146% between 2021 and 2022.

- Vermont tops the list as the best state for women traveling alone, with the lowest rate of violence against women in the country and the highest rate of women who report feeling safe.
- Delaware is the second safest state in the U.S. for women, followed by Maryland.
- Rhode Island is the most popular state for solo female travelers and it has the highest community safety rating, while Minnesota is the friendliest state for women traveling alone.
