Another One Of The Old Charlotte Restaurants Falls Victim To Redevelopment
Another one bites the dust. As more and more people move to Charlotte developers are willing to pay for more and more for land. While growth and innovation can be seen as a good thing, there are also casualties of that growth. One that has received a lot of attention in Charlotte is the loss of Charlotte institutions. In many cases restaurants. Many of these spots we’ve lost over the last few years are part of what people refer to as Old Charlotte. Some of the old Charlotte restaurants we’ve lost in recent years include Price’s Chicken Coop, Zack’s Hamburgers, and now the newest one added to the list is Gus’ Sir Beef. The restaurant posted the following to social media after reports circled of a for sale sign outside the restaurant.
Gus’ Sir Beef is/was a home-cooking family-style restaurant, think meat and vegetables. Probably a lot like what my grandmother used to cook. I miss that type of food and am sorry I never made it to a meal there. I’ve driven past the location on Monroe Rd numerous times and always wondered about the spot. The restaurant is still open currently as no buyer has been secured. But if Gus Sir Beef is one of your favorite old Charlotte restaurants you may want to make a trip soon.
If You Only Have One Meal In Charlotte North Carolina Here's Where You Must Go
If you want to find the best spot in a city how do you go about that? I’d start by asking a person where they’d go if they would only eat one meal in that location. Which begs the question, if you only have one meal in Charlotte where should you eat it? Perhaps you’re on a long layover, or stopping through on a drive. In a city with endless options for meals, how do you know where to pick? I like to avoid chain restaurants or at least ones I can eat at home, when I travel. So that rule applies here as well, with one exception. But in order to correctly answer this question I first have to ask one of you. Which meal are you eating? That of course factors into where I’d tell you to go.
So I have your answer, but it’s all based on that meal. But don’t worry I’ve answered the question for every possible meal- breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, cocktails, small plates/apps, and more. You’ll find 11 different restaurants or in some cases bars below that I, as well as some trusted confidants, feel are the best choices of where to go in Charlotte.
