Homebuyers In Their 20s and 30s Demand Attractive Exteriors
The decision to buy a home is one of the biggest decisions a person can make – as well as the most expensive. So what is important in the mind of homebuyers?
Therefore, a lot goes into the choice to pull the trigger, along with deciding what comes after. OnePoll has conducted a survey on behalf of TruGreen and has broken down what how homes are purchased, who is purchasing them, and what homeowners are spending money on after the sale.
It’s What’s On The Outside That Counts
While everyone has a different strategy for picking their dream home, there are some things that can be agreed upon based on age.
- Curb Appeal – Gen Z (47%) and millennials (46%) are more likely to make a decision based on cite curb appeal than any other generation. This includes many exterior things like balconies, decks, and even the color of the house.
- Architecture – Gen Z and Millennials were also more like to make a buying decision based on the style of the home itself.
The survey finds that the average homeowner deals with a handful of surprise costs in their first year of owning a home while dropping about $3,600 to address those issues. Those surprises are generally thanks to:
- Appliance replacement (56%)
- Exterior repairs like windows (53%)
- Major repairs like roofing (52%)
So, who exactly is working on these repairs? Of those polled, 62% say they’d hire a pro to deal with home maintenance over:
- Immediate family (55%)
- Extended family (47%)
- A friend (39%)
