Study finds Raleigh is more expensive to live in than Charlotte
As someone who grew up and spent nearly 25 years in Raleigh and moved to Charlotte in my adult life, I find it really hard to believe that Raleigh is more expensive to live in than Charlotte.
I know the economy has changed since I moved here but now that I am living here in Charlotte, I definitely would think that a study would find Charlotte to be more expensive than Raleigh. But that’s not the case because 24/7 Wall St. used the cost of living data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis to determine the most expensive city in each state.
Raleigh-Cary was found the most expensive spot to live in North Carolina. Raleigh has a median household income of $73,706 and a poverty rate of 9.2% compared to the state average of $56,642 and 14.0%. Even though Raleigh is the most expensive city in North Carolina to live in, Raleigh is still 4.3% less expensive than the national average.
Just like any other time we talk about North Carolina, you know we have to talk about South Carolina as well. When it comes to South Carolina, I think most people can guess which metropolitan area is the most expensive to live in: Hilton Head Island-Bluffton!
The median household income is $67,723 with a poverty rate of 10.6%.
If you’d like to check out another state, you can do that here.
