Community Unites To Help Santa Deliver SUV To Family In Need
A Utah community works together to give the gift of transportation to a family in need. According to FOX 13 Now, after being injured in a motorcycle accident years ago, Cache County, Utah, mechanic Jason Hansen appreciated how people in his community helped him get back on his feet. So to pay that kindness forward, Hansen fixed a van to give away to a neighbor who was having a tough time. That started off a yearly tradition where he gets a vehicle and fixes it up to give away to a family in need.
At first, he paid for the whole project out of his own pocket, but as other people in the community heard about his good deed, they started donating to help support his cause. Hansen loves that other people appreciate the good he’s trying to do and want to help out. “My absolute favorite part is people coming together,” he says. “I had a friend I hadn’t talked to in 10 years, and he gave me $300 for the project.” And now the tradition has evolved to include toys and gifts with the vehicle and Santa even shows up to help deliver the surprise.
Ty Mortensen, a friend of Hansen’s who will play the role of Santa for the delivery, says the vehicle giveaways have been life-changing for everyone involved. “People that really have struggled, that really have hardship – for them to come out and get a brand new car and toys and presents – it’s just mind-blowing,” he says. While Hansen is working hard on the SUV he plans to give away this year, he still hasn’t decided who’s going to receive the new ride, but he says he has a couple of deserving families in mind.
