You could boost your metabolism just by adding something to your morning coffee!

We told you, you shouldn't drink coffee on an empty stomach, but now coffee drinkers may be interested to know adding some flavor to their morning mug without adding extra calories just got easier. According to She Finds, and nutritionist said adding cinnamon to your joe could have health benefits. Including anti-inflammatory effects. Coffee is already the “powerhouse of all drinks,” according to nutritionist Valeria Dolbel. She also says the buzzy brew comes with benefits including antioxidants and increased serotonin.

And with the right ingredients, Dolbel says coffee can “help you have a healthy metabolism.” That’s where cinnamon comes in. Coffee drinkers tend to have a specific way they like theirs, which often includes milk and sugar. But she stresses that “coffee is not a dessert.” She adds, too much milk and sugar, could turn it into a high-calorie drink. Cinnamon makes an excellent addition to your daily cup since it not only improves the taste, it also helps with metabolism too.

Lisa Richards, a registered nutritionist and creator of the Candida Diet, agrees. “By making a few changes to our coffee, we can  avoid weight gain” she explains. “Cinnamon boosts thermogenesis in the body, which in turn, results in more calories burned.” Registered dietitian Trista Best also recommends swapping refined sugars for cinnamon in coffee because it’s “natural and anti-inflammatory” and it can boost metabolism and stabilize blood sugar as well.

Hey, there are worse things to add to your coffee. I remember when adding butter to your drink could help you lose weight. I'll give cinnamon a try!
