How Producer Nicole Met Her Fiance
I just got engaged and some of you may be wondering…where did it all begin? Or maybe you’re not wondering that. But that’s the great thing about a blog: I can do this for myself just to look back on. 🙂
So let’s start from the beginning.
In April 2020, during the height of the pandemic, I came across one of my Facebook friends who became a travel nurse and dropped everything to go work in the ICU in New York City, the epicenter of the coronavirus at the time. She shared a very insightful post about the reality of what was going on. Of course we see things on the media and read headlines but nobody knows more than someone on the frontline. So when I came across her Facebook post I read it on air. I didn’t know who she was but I was drawn to share her post with our listeners.
In September 2020, I made an Instagram post on World Suicide Prevention Day. Without even knowing it, my now fiancee shared the post on her Instagram with her followers.
A few months later in December, she replied to an Instagram story of mine and it all clicked to me. She was the Facebook post I shared on the air. I was Facebook friends with her but I wasn’t on Instagram, so I immediately followed her. When I followed her, her Instagram story immediately popped up on my feed and then I viewed it and saw she was in Utah, surrounded by beautiful snow. So what did I do? I shot my shot, of course! I know you’re probably curious as to what slick pick-up line I used so here it is: “I’m obsessed with snow.” *face palm*
But it worked!
We started messaging on Instagram as friends, and a few weeks later I decided to give her my number. At this time I didn’t even know if she liked women, but I just enjoyed and valued our conversation so much I wanted it to continue. Messaging turned into texting and then a new year started. We finally had the conversation to where we both knew we were interested in one another, and then texting turned into Facetiming. She was in Utah for another couple of months so we relied on Facetime. That’s how I knew she was different. We talked for hours. I’m not just talking hours…I mean HOURS. Six plus hours to be exact. Sometimes we would even fall asleep on Facetime. When you’re in your thirtys there is not many “firsts” you get to have but when it came to feelings and emotions, I experienced a lot of firsts with her and that’s how I knew.
Fast forward to February 2021 and she came home from Utah. When she came back we had our first date and the rest is history!
