Producer Nicole’s Engagement Story Tell-All
Where do I even begin?
One thing is for sure, I never thought I’d be doing an engagement story blog. Marriage is one of those things that always seemed nice and was always the goal but I definitely thought something was wrong with me because no matter what I could never see it with anybody else. But I guess that’s the beauty of it, right? It’s definitely cliche but all of that changed when I met my current partner. If you’re a few chapters behind and don’t know how I met my partner, you can read that chapter here.
So let’s fast forward to the good stuff.
June 30th is when I actually bought the ring. Then I got hit with what should be an easy question, “what size is she?” I panicked because I had no clue. Best friend to the rescue. I immediately texted her best friend- who she was supposed to see the following day. We came up with a master plan that they would do brunch and then she would tell my partner that she needed to go get her ring cleaned and during that she would get her to try things on and get her finger sized. At this point, she totally wasn’t on to me!
Then Chelsea Cutler announced the second leg of her tour and when we found out she was coming to North Carolina that’s when I knew when I was going to propose. October 14, 2022.
I had a lot of preliminary ideas but it all came together once two companies got involved: Asheville Luxury Picnic Company and Allegory & Elm. Once I got them on board, everything was smooth sailing.
What wasn’t so smooth sailing is my secret keeping and my scheming behind her back.
The plan was to go on a “hike” and then the picnic was going to be set up. That sounds great and all but we’re very routine people. So a few things were going to be different about this “hike” that I knew I had to problem-shoot before the big day. First, outfits. I don’t know about you guys but when I go hiking I am not dressed to impress. I’m lucky if everything matches…and my partner is the same way. So the way I thought I solved this was by telling her that I had a radio endorsement opportunity with Lululemon. I got us outfits by them and told her that we needed to wear them and take pictures for content so that way I can secure this deal. It’s not a super far-fetched fib, but she was skeptical from the jump. Then I suggested that we wear matching shoes. Well, the only matching shoes we have are white vans. She was very confused about why I would want to wear white vans while hiking. The second weird thing was I told her no dogs on this hike. I wanted to focus on “content.” That’s when she really started to be skeptical of me.
It was about an hour drive from the hotel we were staying at to the proposal spot. When we got there the trailhead was to the right and the forest was to the left. We were going into the forest. That’s when it all went down.
The most beautiful picnic was set up, I had something written down that I read her. And then I bent the knee! We got to enjoy some local donuts and pop some champagne and just celebrate our love. It still doesn’t feel real. The proposal and the weekend was so perfect that it still doesn’t feel real.
That’s the cliff notes version, but I hope you enjoyed my engagement story! If you want to see our engagement photos you can check that out here.
