Cheap And Easy Ways To Make Your Home Look Expensive
Do you ever watch HGTV and start thinking of all the ways you want to upgrade your home? While it’s easy to get sucked into the idea on all those reno and home improvement shows, actually hiring someone to do that kind of work can get pretty pricey. But according to The Sun and Christina Dennis, a DIY and decor pro, says it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to make your home look expensive.
These are her budget-friendly tips for adding more elegance and chic to your home, with no demo crew required:
- Change the hardware – It’s cheap and easy to switch up the handles and knobs on your cabinets. And swapping out that dated hardware to something more modern gives your kitchen an instant upgrade.
- Keep it minimal – If you have a tendency to over decorate, try scaling it back a little so every piece in your home gets to shine a little more. “Having lots of white space in your room for the eyes to rest is really gonna give the room an elegant feeling,” Christina explains.
- Use luxury-feeling fabrics – Make the room feel lux and glam without spending a lot by adding a plush throw or some velvet or satin pillows.
- Custom lighting – Add some battery-powered stick-on lights under your shelves and cabinets to create a lux look for less.
- Real flowers – Christina says, “What’s going to instantly take your room up a notch is using real flowers.” And you don’t have to splurge on fresh blooms, even the cheap ones from the grocery store will look expensive if you arrange them in a nice vase.
- Change your curtains – Ready to ditch those blinds or old curtains? Aim high. “Floor to ceiling drapery always looks really good and always makes your ceilings look higher and your room bigger,” shares the interiors expert.
- Paint wisely – Bright and bold colors may seem like the way to go, but they may get old quick. Christina says going with neutral shades is always safe because they’re timeless.
- Declutter – And the easiest tip of all? Clearing the junk and clutter you’ve been holding onto to make your home feel lighter.
