It’s World Bipolar Day
Today is World Bipolar Day.
The day is meant to raise awareness about the mental illness and efforts to end the social stigma often associated with it. Bipolar disorder causes erratic mood swings, energy patterns, activity levels, and the capacity to do daily chores. The symptoms are different for each person and treatments are difficult to maintain.
News9Live reports that World Bipolar Day is observed today as a nod to 19th century Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, who was born on this date and widely believed to have suffered from bipolar disorder. He ended his life at the age of 37.
