Classes That Should Be Required For Students Before Adulthood
Tell me, have you had to use calculus in your daily life as of a recent — or, ever? Looking back, it feels like our high school teachers were just lying about the fact that we actually needed to learn some of that stuff. What would have been nice to learn are important things like how taxes and insurance work. Here’s a list from Upworthy, of the things that should’ve been taught and required for all students to learn before entering adulthood.
Basic Psychology/Mental Health Maintenance – We’re all affected by mental health issues. Knowing how to process emotions and cope from an early age could go a long way.
Basic Sociology/Human Behavior – Cults, conspiracy theories, prejudices can help explain how we crazy human beings function.
Media Literacy – Remember when misinformation was declared a public health crisis?
The Stock Market and Other Investments – Yes, economics was a class but personal finance might have been more useful.
How Banking, Credit, and Credit Cards Work – Not understanding the basics can really screw you up in life.
Taxes – Not just how to do taxes, but what taxes get used for.
First Aid/Safety/Self-Defense – it’s a scary world we live in these days.
Navigating our Healthcare and Health Insurance System – because it was way too complicated and frustrating for what it’s worth.
