Man Swaps Wife’s Cat & She Has No Idea Six Years Later
Honesty is a pretty important part of any solid marriage, but one husband is revealing he’s been keeping a pretty big secret from his wife for a long time. He took to Reddit’s “True Off My Chest” confessional section to explain that he swapped his wife’s cat for a look-alike more than half a decade ago and she still doesn’t know. He begins by explaining that his then-girlfriend had an “extremely aggressive” black cat and he didn’t like all the scratching, hissing, and pooping everywhere it did.
So one day when his girlfriend was out of town, the cat badly scratched his arm. “I joked to the cat that it’s not special and I’ll replace it if it scratches again,” he writes on Reddit. The cat continued scratching and he decided to follow through with his joke. He drove to a nearby shelter, found an identical “far better-behaved cat” and adopted it. Then he drove her original cat to an animal shelter one town over and never said a word about the switch.
That was six years ago and since then they’ve gotten married and they still have the swapped cat. It answers to the original cat’s name and his wife is clueless it’s not the same animal. “She loves this cat and brags about how much better behaved it is,” he writes. “Every time I see it, I feel like a total piece of sh*t.” While he may feel better after admitting what he did, Reddit users are shocked by the confession:
- “I would absolutely be considering divorce if I ever found this out,” writes one.
- “You don’t get to give away someone’s pet to a shelter, without informing them,” another posts.
- “Under no circumstances, should you EVER tell her,” comments another. “You will completely destroy her trust.”
- But there were some users who found the story amusing, like one who writes, “This is some ‘Seinfeld’-tier shenanigans right here.”
