The White House has announced that Walmart, FedEx and UPS will move to working 24 hours, seven days a week in order to ease the supply chain bottleneck.
President Biden made the announcement this week. He met with Walmart CEO John Furner, FedEx Logistics CEO Udo Lange, and president of U.S. operations at UPS Nando Cesarone, as well as the CEOs of Target and Samsung.
A senior administration official notes that the supply chain is in the hands of the private sector, so they need to take steps to solve the problem that’s resulted in empty store shelves.
UPS and FedEx combined shipped 40 percent of American packages by volume in 2020. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California… were many products made overseas enter the U.S., are also committed to a 24/7 working model. Unions representing those workers are also onboard.
