I'd heard that Jamie Foxx glued his eyes shut to play the role of blind piano player Ray Charles in the movie "Ray." That got me thinking, who else went to extremes to get into their character before the movie shoots.

A few that come right to mind. Heath Ledger. The actor locked himself in a hotel room in NYC for a month. He reportedly did nothing but writing small sayings on hundreds of pieces of paper. Of course, what happened to him next is really sad, he was unable to ever break that character mold and died of an overdose.

I heard when Val Kilmer was playing Jim Morrison the lead singer of The Doors, he needed to ween himself off of alcohol and drugs he used to play the role!

Daniel Day Lewis actually stayed in character as Abe Lincoln off set too. He wore his hat and spoke like the president and people had to speak to him as Abe Lincoln!

Here's a list of actors and actresses who went to extremes according to the website Buzzfeed!
