Thousands of Hurricane Katrina survivors attempted to use the convention center as a shelter of last resort in the days following the storm, yet it lacked power, water, food and medical supplies. McDonogh 35 was damaged by flooding from Hurricane Katrina and was the first high school for African-Americans in the state of Louisiana. It is one of the last remaining traditional public schools in the city. A girl in her graduation gown read off a list of everything she lied to her mother about in high school. Her mother had her arms crossed but barely reacted until she could not hold it in anymore and hit the top of her daughter’s head a few times. They hugged it out at the end and the daughter let out a sigh of relief because she was able to get everything off her chest.
Mom takes the news pretty well…except when she delivers a smack.
