Study: 1 In 5 Homeworkers Aren’t Going Outside In Daylight During The Week
Last year must have been terrible for sunscreen sales because according to a new study, the rise in remote work has also meant a rise in people not going outside. Researchers have found about one in five people working from home do not leave their living/workspace in the daytime during their entire workweek. And even more shockingly, the average adult says they’ve gone at least six consecutive days without leaving the confines of their home.
The top reason why people have gone lowkey vampire isn’t a shocking one. About 13% of people said they were following orders to help fight the spread of COVID. The other top reasons people gave from socially distancing from the sun were being too busy to break for lunch, bad weather, feeling there was no reason to go outside, and feeling bored of their usual walks.
The worst part of it all is that we all seem to know we need to spend time in the sunlight. The study found 80% of folks admit that being outside impacts their mood and 64% say they’re more irritable on days spent cooped up inside. But that’s still not enough for them to mosey out of their office/kitchen for an extended lunch break even with no boss there to tell them to get back to work.
