Mom Makes Nearly $20K Selling Her Breast Milk Online
Unfortunately this will NEVER be me as I am JUST producing enough breastmilk to feed my son Jaxson but if I was an “over producer” I might try to get in this cash train!
A Florida mom has been bringing in extra money with a unique side hustle. Julie Dennis served as a surrogate and gave birth to a baby in August 2019. After the infant was six months old and didn’t need her breast milk any more, she decided to start selling it to parents who aren’t able to or don’t want to breastfeed their own babies.
Every month, the 32-year-old teacher pumps 15-thousand ounces that she stores in the freezer before shipping it all over the country. Julie sells the milk for 90-cents an ounce and has made nearly $20-thousand from it so far. While some have been critical of her charging for it, she sees it as fair compensation for the hours she spends pumping every day, which is time away from her family. Plus, she spends time cleaning and sanitizing the four pumps she uses and has to pay for the bags and replacement pump parts.
When she started selling her milk, she used the extra income to pay bills, but Julie says for the last six months she’s been able to save it and build up a rainy-day fund. It may be unconventional, but that doesn’t bother this mama. “I have a perfectly good uterus and perfectly good milk, so I may as well use it,” she explains. “It’s not completely money-oriented, but I make sure it’s worth it for me and my family.”
