Former Panthers Coach Ron Rivera Diagnosed With Cancer
Former Panthers football coach & current Washington football coach Ron Rivera has been diagnosed with cancer. This is his first season with the Washington football team and he says he plans to continue coaching. Rivera was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma located in a lymph node and doctors have considered it very treatable due to it being very early stages.
Squamous cell cancer is a form of skin cancer. It’s usually not life-threatening but has the ability to spread throughout the body and cause serious complications. In an interview with ESPN, he revealed that at 58 years old he found a lump on his neck and when it didn’t go away he visited a doctor. This was early July. He was told he had cancer two weeks ago.
The Panthers have shown their support on social media for their former head coach.
