Popular Tex Mex Chain With North Carolina Locations Sold For $605 Million

As native Texans, we love a good Tex Mex restaurant. And, when an Austin based chain we adore moved into Charlotte years ago we were thrilled. Now, we learn popular Tex Mex chain Chuy's sold for $605 million.

Darden Restaurants made the announcement this week according to NBC DFW. And, if you think you don't know Darden Restaurants, chances are you do. Darden is the parent company of familiar staples including Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Capital Grille and several more. So, why was Chuy's sold for $605 million?

According to reports, the successful Tex Mex chain fit their desires to diversify their portfolio and add a new category of dining. Darden President and CEO Rick Cardenas said in part, "Chuy's is an excellent fit that supports our winning strategy. I am excited to welcome their 7400 team members to Darden."

Anyone from Texas is familiar with Chuy's. The chain got its start in Austin in 1982. But, it grew to more than 100 locations in 15 states, including North Carolina. Originally, Chuy's in Charlotte was located at SouthPark near the mall.

However, years ago, it relocated to where it is now in Waverly on Providence Rd. We visit often. I love the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Enchiladas. Super spicy and delicious. And, those in the know ask for the Creamy Jalapeno Ranch if it isn't automatically served with the chips and salsa.

Plus, if you order the fajitas, you'll notice the tortillas are hand made on site. They're wonderful. Suffice it to say, we're fans. I certainly hope as Chuy's sold for $605 million to the Darden family of restaurants it doesn't change what we all love about Chuy's.
