Heads Up: The Charlotte-Douglas Airport Overlook is CLOSED
We entered week 9 of quarantine this week. At this point, we’re all thinking of safe things we can do to get out of the house. Well, with the news of the North Carolina parks opening back up, and with us entering Phase 1 of this ‘new normal,’ I thought going on a picnic on Take Out Tuesday at the airport overlook would be a great little date idea! I looked it up online, and couldn’t find anything about it being closed so I just figured it was fair game.
WRONG.
It’s closed. They won’t even let you turn onto Overlook street. There’s roadblock signs and also a huge sign that says no public access. Across the street, there is a big field that just looks perfect to park on…so I figured why not, let’s park here and have a picnic here instead. I kid you not, within the minute of putting the car in park and stepping out of the car 2 CLT Airport trucks pulled up saying it wasn’t allowed.
I’m unsure of if they overlook is closed due to Covid-19 or due to construction, but just know…it’s closed! I live in Plaza Midwood so it was a bit of a hike out there. We decided to park in the cell phone lot at the airport and have a picnic there instead! It definitely wasn’t the same view as the overlook but you could still get a good view of planes coming in!
