Amtrak Making Adjustments During Coronavirus Outbreak
There has been a lot of talk about the impact of the Coronavirus on domestic and international air travel. Many airlines are waiving change fees and even cancelling flights to certain countries, such as Italy. Train travel in the U.S. is also being affected.
Amtrak is still running most of its routes, although they have temporarily suspended three non-stop Acela trains that travel between New York City and Washington, DC (Trains 2401, 2402, 2403) due to decreased demand. The rail service continues to operate 300 daily trains and is taking these precautions to keep passengers safe:
- Closely monitoring the Coronavirus and taking action based on CDC guidelines.
- Increasing the frequency of cleaning service on their trains and at their stations.
- Providing more antibacterial sanitizers and disinfectant wipes for customers and employees throughout their trains and stations.
- Waiving change fees on bookings made through April 30, 2020, so that travelers can have the flexibility to change their plans.
