Outdoor Classrooms To Help Stop Covid? One NC District Is Considering It
With the continued uptick in COVID-19 cases one North Carolina School district is thinking outside the box, or should I say outside the school. That’s right Durham County Schools is considering outdoor classrooms to help curb the spread of COVID-19. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a quarter of all new cases of the virus are among children. This could be a result of schools starting or the fact that with a lot of adults being vaccinated the virus is moving to children. Regardless of the cause, it has the district evaluating outdoor learning spaces.
The outdoor learning spaces were proposed by a company called Hobbs Architects. The goal would be to use them while COVID-19 remains an issue but also well after. They believe they can construct the spaces in a way to keep children protected from the elements. This is certainly an idea that would hopefully fair better than online learning. No word yet on how much these would cost or where the money would come from. If COVID continues to be an issue do you think more schools with consider outdoor classrooms?
