Louboutin Heels Are Designed To Be Uncomfortable
French fashion designer Christian Louboutin is famous for the stiletto heels he creates. While most of us don’t have a pair of his signature red-bottomed heels in our closets because they are too expensive, they’ve been name-dropped by everyone from Carrie Bradshaw on “Sex and the City,” to Cardi B and J.Lo, who made a hit song about them.
His clientele doesn’t seem to care that the pricey footwear isn’t comfortable and neither does the designer himself. Louboutin says that his signature shoes allow women the “freedom to be feminine,” even if wearing them means they have limited mobility. He says he doesn’t think about comfort when he designs.
“No shoe with a 12-centimeter heel is comfortable … but people do not come to me looking for a pair of slippers,” the designer explains. “I don’t want people to look at my shoes and say: ‘They look really comfortable!’ The important thing is that people say: ‘Wow, they’re beautiful!’”
A new exhibition celebrating his famous footwear opens in Paris today.
