Couple Refills Same Box Of Valentine’s Chocolates For 25 Years
Lots of people stress about what to get their sweetheart for Valentine’s Day, struggling to come up with something to top what they did the year before. But instead of searching for the best new thing, maybe we should all take a cue from an Arkansas couple who have been celebrating the exact same way for decades.
Arvel and Gail Ross have been married since 1957 and for the last 25 years, they’ve kept the same Valentine’s Day tradition. Every year, they go to Kopper Kettle Candies and refill the same lace-covered heart-shaped box with chocolates they choose. It’s something they both love doing and they plan to keep it up as long as possible.
The couple started out as high school sweethearts and after 63 years of wedded bliss, they have two children, six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. As for that special chocolate box, Arvel says he chose it for a reason. “It’s a lot prettier than some of the boxes I’ve seen that are just red,” he explains. “I thought it was pretty, she liked it and hung onto it for all these years.” And with that, their sweet tradition was born.
