What Is The “Fast 800” Diet?
Just like everyone else, I am starting the new year in a healthy way. I keep looking at different diets and tactics. Some promise quick results, which people love in a New Year’s resolution, only most diets don’t work that way. But the one called the “Fast 800” does – it’s supposed to be able to help you lose an average of 22 pounds every eight weeks.
The diet was created by the “New York Times” bestselling author Dr. Michael Mosley and it doesn’t follow the CDC’s suggestion that slow-and-steady weight loss is best. Instead, he says his plan is to lose weight quickly by eating just 800 calories a day for two to 12 weeks, with a focus on low sugar and low carbs, with plenty of protein and leafy greens.
“The idea is you extend your overnight fast,” Mosley explains. “If you combine that with 800 calories, the studies show it is even more effective.”
He says the 800 calories of the Mediterranean-style diet is enough to keep you satisfied and give you all the essential nutrients you need, and that you’ll lose weight quickly, which motivates people to stick with it. But is it safe? According to ABC News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton, “For a healthy individual, 800 calories a day for a limited period of time should be fine.”
I personally don’t recommend this plan. I got nutritional advice from Total Nutrition Technology in Charlotte, NC, where they create an entire eating plan for you, which contains a lot more calories than just 800. It yielded phenomenal results a few years ago however what intrigues me about this diet is that there is an actual doctor stating it’s healthy. This diet could be a quick short term fix.
