Sycamore’s Beer Cans Prompts a Visit from State Alcohol Enforcement
Sycamore has been a staple in southend for several years now. Since their opening, the brewery is typically so packed on the weekend that you can barely walk in. It appears officers with the State Alcohol Enforcement will be walking right in to talk with the owners.
Several months ago, Sycamore decided to mix up the look of the Christmas Cookie Winter Ale cans. At first glance, it looks like a very festive can. Almost like an ugly Christmas sweater. At a closer look, you will find pixelated reindeer in sexual positions.
It’s important to note that the cans were only for purchase at the brewery and not in stores.
Someone sent an anonymous tip (narc) to the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. So the state’s Alcohol Law Enforcement sent an agent to Sycamore on last week to address the humping reindeer.
Charlotte Agenda spoke with ALE Special Agent in Charge Omar Qureshi who says that Sycamore didn’t get approval for the reindeer label, which is an administrative violation and thinks that the regulators would have err on the side of caution and not approve the label. Owners of Sycamore apologized to the agent and they had a good laugh at the design.
Sycamore is likely to face a fine between $500-$1,000 for the violation.
