Netflix Is Rolling Out A Low-Cost, Mobile-Only Subscription Plan for $4
But there is some bad news attached with this new, cheap, Netflix plan.
The announcement comes at the same time the company said that it lost 130,000 subscribers in the United States from April through June. This new mobile only monthly subscription plan has been testing the price at $4 but there’s one bad part. It’s only available in India.
Netflix said that the new plan “will be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay TV ARPU (average revenue per user) is low below $5. Meanwhile in America people are paying for digital TV subscriptions for more than $40 per month.
Netflix declined to comment on whether it’s trying to make up for the loss of subscribers in the US by offering the service cheaply in India, a notoriously price-sensitive market that has a population over 1.3 billion people.
Us Americans can only hope that one day Netflix offers similar low priced streaming options for us too!
