60 people moving to Charlotte every day, but why?
City planning officials are frantically trying to plan for a massive boom in population, but where are all these people coming from?
It doesn’t look the city is prepared for the massive boom to Charlotte’s population. According to Charlotte Observer, they (the city officials) were worried that plans to regulate that growth and shape the city’s future are lagging behind the droves of people coming to Charlotte every year.
City council member Julie Eiselt said “We don’t have a plan. … I’m completely frustrated that we don’t know what we want our city to look like.”
Ever wondered why? A lot of factors really.
Not only is Charlotte the fastest growing city in America according to the US Census, but our economy is rapidly increasing. In an infographic released by Squarefoot, from 2003 to 2013, our economy grew by over 26% outpacing Miami, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. If Charlotte was a nation, it would be the 60th largest economy, larger than Angola and Morocco. Such a successful economy had a workforce to follow it. Between 2003-2013 our workforce increased by 39.4% beating beating Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville and Austin.
